Doug, I can't believe you're finally retiring (for now?).
You showed me the magic and logic of phonological theory and supervised both of my theses, for which I am eternally grateful. The breadth and depth of what I learned from you still informs my work. Your patient and critical but kind approach is my model for working with students.
Some memories I have of you are:
– Waaaay back taking a seminar with you that your Uncle also attended. I wish I had appreciated at the time how unique the "Double Pulleyblank" experience was.
– Climbing with you, Anne-Marie and Kristin at Cliffhanger
-Life hack: granola (and milk, if you have it) is the ultimate work snack food.
-Life advice: don't focus on the one negative and end up missing all of the positives
All the best on your next big adventures and thanks for everything.
