I'm highly honoured to have been tutored by Douglas Pulleyblank in various dimensions, the chief of which was at ALS5 (South Africa) in 2019. Additionally, reading his materials on Optimality Theory has enhanced my understanding of the theory over the years. I'm also impressed by his gigantic contributions to the development of African Linguistics, both empirically and theoretically. Above all, his style of writing characterized by profound knowledge of subject matter, rigorous argumentation and high level organization is top notch. For me, what makes Doug stand out among his peers is his ability to see what others do not see. I've learnt from this skill of his, as my sense of intellectual reasoning has greatly deepened in the process.
I wish Doug the best as he commences his retirement journey.
