Dear Doug,
It is truly difficult to find the right words to express my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to you on your retirement. Your unwavering support, advice, and constant encouragement have been nothing short of extraordinary.
From my arrival at UBC in September 2017 until now, your kindness, understanding, and positive influence have stood out in remarkable ways. You supported me through every stage of my academic journey at UBC, especially during the more challenging moments, and for that, I am deeply thankful. Your unmatched patience, empathy, and generosity have left a profound impact on me, both personally and professionally.
Working with you has always been an exciting, rewarding, and enriching experience. I am sincerely grateful for the countless discussions, insightful comments, and suggestions that have helped and continue to help shape my work and growth. These moments, and everything you did, will remain with me always.
One of my fondest memories remains our visit to Falkland – what a fun and unforgettable time that was! With the kind permission of Samuel and Darius, I have included some cool photos here 😊 as a pleasant reminder of your warm, accommodating, and lively spirit.
Thank you, Doug, for being such an incredible teacher, advisor, mentor, and a truly rare kind of wonderful human being. Saying "thank you" hardly feels like enough…but thank you, sincerely!
Congratulations on your retirement! I wish you a healthy, hearty, happy, and richly fulfilling next chapter.
Warm greetings from Vienna! 🙂
Alex
